Dhaka’s computer market held steady this week — after a month in which holding steady was not the pattern

No significant change is a result, not an absence of one. After September’s memory shortage pushed RAM up repeatedly, a flat week is worth recording.

Dhaka’s computer market held steady this week — after a month in which holding steady was not the pattern

There has been no significant change in the price of technology products in Dhaka’s computer market this week, Prothom Alo reports after visiting several of the city’s markets.

RAM, processors, motherboards, SSDs, graphics cards, hard disks and monitors can all be bought at last week’s prices.

Why a flat week is worth reporting

Because the recent pattern has not been flat. A memory shortage pushed Dhaka RAM up repeatedly during September — as much as Tk 1,000 on a single stick — and graphics cards followed. Global smartphone shipments fell 20% in the same period, with the memory chip shortage among the causes.

A week in which nothing moves, in the middle of a shortage that has been moving things for two months, is a data point rather than a non-event. It does not mean the shortage has ended. It means that at these prices, this week, supply and demand in Dhaka found each other.

Some of this week’s prices

Processors. At the top of Intel’s range the Core Ultra 9 285K (5.70GHz) is quoted at Tk 62,000, with the 14th-generation Core i9 at 6.00GHz just below on Tk 56,000. The Core i7 follows — Tk 50,000 for the 14th-generation part at 5.60GHz, Tk 43,000 for last year’s at 5.40GHz. Both the Core Ultra 5 245KF (5.2GHz) and the Core i5 14600KF (5.30GHz) land on Tk 38,000, while the Core Ultra 7 265K is Tk 35,000. Cheaper again: a 13th-generation Core i5 at 4.60GHz for Tk 19,500, and a Core i3 at 4.50GHz for Tk 16,500.

On the AMD side the Ryzen 9 7950X (4.5GHz) sits at Tk 45,500, with the Ryzen 7 5700G at Tk 23,500 and the Ryzen 5 5600G at Tk 19,000.

Motherboards. From MSI, the cheapest DDR4 options are the A520M-A Pro at Tk 7,200 and the B450M-A Pro Max at Tk 8,500, with the Pro H610M-E at Tk 10,000. Its DDR5 boards start at Tk 16,700 for the H810M-B and run to Tk 19,000 for the B650M Gaming WiFi and Tk 22,500 for the B760 Gaming Plus. Asus asks Tk 10,600 for the Prime H610M, Tk 18,900 for the TUF Gaming B550M Plus and Tk 37,900 for the Wi-Fi 7 Prime Z890 Plus CSM. Gigabyte’s B760M on DDR5 is Tk 17,200; its B450M K is Tk 8,900.

RAM. Corsair’s Vengeance LPX at 3200MHz costs Tk 8,300 in 8GB and Tk 18,500 in 16GB, both DDR4; its 16GB Vengeance RGB on DDR5 at 6000MHz is Tk 35,000. From G.Skill, an 8GB Trident Z RGB (DDR4, 3600MHz) is Tk 9,000, and a 16GB Flare X5 (DDR5, 5600MHz) is Tk 33,000.

What the RAM line tells you

Look at the DDR5 figures beside the DDR4 ones. A 16GB DDR4 kit at Tk 18,500 against a 16GB DDR5 kit at Tk 33,000–35,000 is close to double for the same capacity — a gap that was much narrower a year ago.

That matters for anyone specifying a new build. The cheapest route to a working machine is still a DDR4 platform, and the motherboard prices above say the same thing: an H610M or B450M at Tk 7,200–10,600 against DDR5 boards at Tk 16,700 and up. The DDR5 premium is currently being paid twice, once on the board and once on the memory.

If the build is for AI work rather than general use, that calculation changes — the constraint there is GPU memory, not system memory, and we set out the arithmetic when Gigabyte brought its Tk 14 lakh AI workstation to Dhaka this week.

How to use a price list like this

Two cautions. These are market-visit prices from a sample of shops, not a fixed rate — the same part will vary between ECS Computer City, IDB and the smaller markets, and quoted prices move with negotiation and with whether VAT is included.

And a flat week is not a prediction. The memory shortage driving the last two months has not been resolved, which means the useful read here is that this is a reasonable week to buy at a known price, not that waiting will be cheaper.
